That's some serious condescending tone. Like the "every day" jobs just aren't as important. I know people with that attitude--we get 'em as patrons and wish that we served food so we could spit in it. Even when they're nice about it, no one likes being considered "one of the peons" or anyone who gives off that vibe. (See: Previous Election)
The other people in your fandom talking about their so-called responsibilities is just precious, right? Because they're not Real Important Jobs, so they just Don't Know, and you feel Awful Lonely in your tower, hm?
Part of me wants to know seriously, what fandom are you in that has a dearth of academia. Mostly, though...
Maybe you should have worked a couple of low-level jobs. Just sayin'.
