...the history of Supernatural wank?

Did it mainly start when Castiel joined? How much did his joining the cast change the makeup of the fandom? What did people wank about in the early days vs the recent seasons? When did the J2 tinhats appear? Did fandom ever like female characters or is the SPN fans hate women thing a new development? What are the big recurring topics people wank about? Do people have shipping wars with Ron the Death Eater bashing of competing partners in this fandom?

Tellllllll meeeeee...I'm so curious....

The Fandom Wank archive has a chronological list of SPN fandom's greatest hits. They've been wanking from the beginning, really, with certain topics gaining favor at different times. The tinhat wank is probably the lowest of the low.

J2 tinhats have been their from the early seasons. At least as early as Season 2 (when I came in), if not the first season. And yes, Castiel's initial appearance jump-started a schism between his devotees and the hardcore Wincesters (but maybe this has calmed down in recent seasons? probably not). When I was in the fandom, people LOVED to bash almost any female character who showed up. I tried to call people out on it, but they would be like, "But we said we liked [Character X], so it's okay."

I don't know where these "wonderful" places are, but I never found them. SPN fandom was a giant headache, and I have no idea why I thought I loved it at the time.

Did fandom ever like female characters
No. Back after season 2, when TPTB were talking about adding two female characters, the fandom freaked out. Just on the idea of it. Because heaven forbid one might maybe possibly flirt with/be a love interest with one of the boys. And the Jo hate back then was pretty epic too. That summer is what started driving me out of the fandom. I made it a couple of more years by hanging out on the fringes, but the female hate (with begrudging acceptance of Ellen) has always been awful.

Ditto. Pretty much the only SPN female I've hated is (naturally) the highest-profile one, Ruby, but even she had her moments. Jo, for me, only suffered when compared with the epic badass her mother was, and you could see hints of the hunter she'd be once she grew into herself.

Anna and Bela were bashed to a ridiculous degree. Haven't been around lately to see if Meg's getting the same treatment, though.

Meg may be getting a bit due to the Megstiel movement, but I am no expert on the matter - I may dislike Megstiel as a pairing, but I typically try to avoid wank and not get into ship wars if I can avoid it, plus I have only been in the fandom for a bit under a year.
