Indeed. I work very, very hard to keep my professional and fandom life separate - not only for my own protection and reputation, but also out of respect to my coworkers and colleagues. Since fandom is part of my personal life, I see no problem keeping it private (and in fact, I don't want to think about work when enjoying my hobbies!). Apparently, OP thinks just because I don't put "By the way, I'm in academia and have published in leading scientific journals, so you know this slash PWP is going to be hot AND biologically accurate" in my disclaimers, that means I do nothing responsible with my life.

"By the way, I'm in academia and have published in leading scientific journals, so you know this slash PWP is going to be hot AND biologically accurate"

I'd like to read all fics with that disclaimer. No lie.

What about the ones by people who've published in leading physics or chemistry journals and know fuck-all about actual biology?

ESPECIALLY those.

I dunno. I'd imagine someone who knows quite a bit about physics can have characters do amazing(ly accurate) things involving the Kama Sutra (http://xkcd.com/414/).

Relevant xkcd strikes again! \o/
