And my support of abortion only goes so far.

Translation: I'm pro-choice, but I reserve the right to judge and shame slutty pigs who use abortion as birth control because they can't keep their skanky legs closed.

When people say their support for abortion is limited, the limit is always the women who purportedly use abortion as birth control.

NA. I admit freely that for me that is the limit. Abortion is not birth control, it's meant to be used when birth control fails. Having several abortions in a row, just because you couldn't be bothered to use anything, is not something I'd support.

I agree. I know people jump to say that women rarely do this, and I believe them, but it is done, and I don't support it philosophically. But I also would not deny a woman an abortion because I suspected her of that, because I don't think any woman should be forced to carry a baby she doesn't want.

Considering abortions are uncomfortable, expensive, and in most states, difficult to get, the number of women who use them 'for birth control' is vanishingly small.

And it's not your fucking business why they're getting any abortion - it is, shockingly, NOT FUCKING ABOUT YOU.

I know this comment isn't going to change anything, but...I'm so tired of people seeing everything in black-and-white and insisting on being rude to those they don't agree with and especially twisting what they said into something they didn't say.

Maybe you could start by not assuming the worst of people, and assuming someone does until proven otherwise.

It may be that she refuses to support abortion in the third trimester (with the exception of saving the mother's life), for example.

I didn't think that opinion was particularly unpopular, actually.

Is it? Because if it is that genuinely alarms me.

So she'd prefer to force women who had been happily anticipating their new baby -- until they received the horrifying news that their child would not survive outside the womb -- to keep a death watch for the rest of the pregnancy, trying not to burst into tears every time someone congratulated them on their baby-to-be? Because so many late-term abortions are performed on fetuses with defects incompatible with life, which are only diagnosable late in the pregnancy.

If the baby wouldn't survive outside the womb, then doing, say, a c-section would basically be the same thing as an abortion, right? In that case, I don't think it's at all unacceptable to abort. The child is going to die anyway.

That's definitely not the only reason someone might perform a third-trimester abortion, though. If you're in the third trimester and your unborn child *can* survive outside the womb, then I think it is unacceptable to kill it. If the mother is endangered by the pregnancy, then end the pregnancy without killing the child.
