So who else thinks the OP is greatly exaggerating or deluded about how influential/important their job is?

'I have a graduate degree!'
'My city's mayor personally asked me to work for him!'
'Now i work for a governor!'

like wow. I mean, at the city level it is not at all uncommon to have elected officials beg people to work for them because there aren't a whole lot of people applying, especially people with graduate degrees in certain fields--because those applicants can usually get better pay with easier workloads elsewhere. It's great that you're proud of your education and job but a state government worker isn't that special.
