Firstly: Leaving aside the patronizing tone, leaving aside indeed everything else, I am seriously puzzled where the hell you ever got the idea that there was a dearth of academics in fandom.

I mean, seriously, there has been major wank about all the acafen ruining it for everyone else. I'm barely peripheral to the actual social side of fandom, and I know six people off the top of my head with graduate degrees. Some of them are unemployed because, hey, economy. Some of them are underemployed for the same reason. Some of them are still in the middle of degrees. But they're everywhere, especially on AO3/DW/LJ. (Possibly fewer on tumblr just because tumblr tends to skew young, but give them time and I'm sure they'll match the rest of it).

Basically, sweetheart, what rock are you living under?

Secondly: I dunno about other people, but simply working at a policy-making job does not actually make for "responsible adult", and a grad degree sure as hell doesn't - I know plenty of people who can do their job just fine but whom outside their job - or their degree - I wouldn't trust to look after a cactus, let alone a kitten, let alone run their lives like responsible adults. I've known CEOs whose personal lives read like a teenage soap opera and believe me, I didn't think of them as responsible adults.

And, you know. Most of the responsible adults I know don't need to be told that they're allowed to have hobbies, nor do they swank (anonymously) about how important their jobs are and how, oh woe is them, they feel Different from the rest of fandom. In fact, that's something that strikes me as pretty friggin' immature.

So, you know. If your aim was just to stir up a bunch of comments, well done, but hey it's been hella entertaining. If you're actually sincere: try again, hon, right now you look like a twerp.
