AYRT

Honestly, most of the people in the fandom circles I'm in tend to just be more 'Yeah, I don't really like/care for/really really dislike X' when the topic comes up, and leave it at that, and the topic of conversation changes unless it's a character that most people will make automatic assumptions about, and those times it's usually a totally reasonable reason.

That said, my fandom friends tend to have a standing agreement of 'If someone doesn't like X character/pairing, then I just won't talk about it with them' and vice versa.

Thanks for the reply!

The way you all do it sounds reasonable to me. It's just kind of opposite among my peeps (in that the default is usually, "I don't like [x] because [simplified reason]" followed by either the subject being dropped or a more in-depth discussion depending on what the people involved seem to be comfortable with at the moment), so the comments hinging on the assumption that you really have to dig to know seemed odd to me.

Like I said - it's just my circle. I don't really know how other parts of fandom handle it. Also, in the interest of fairness, part of the reason is because a few of my fandom friends get a little too...passionate sometimes, and that can lead to some nasty disagreements - so it's generally just better to not get too far into that unless someone asks.

But, if it helps, what I've seen from fandom at large, people tend not to explain *why* the dislike a character unless they're bashing.

Definitely good to know. I'll file it away for if I ever start having more in-depth discussions with people outside my small group.
