IA with this assessment, but given the style it was portrayed with, that's the sort of arc that doesn't fit the episodic format of the show very well. If it had been concentrated in one season, or half a season, with a very tight arc, it would have been conveyed way better. And if he had actually changed substantially, not just intellectually, by the time he regenerated.
