Re: Episode morals that make you mad?

I remember that book! I also remember asking the teacher why the other fish felt entitled to the Rainbow Fish's body, why is was going against what my parents taught me about friendship (liking people for who they are), and why the Rainbow Fish wasn't bleeding or dead because he pulled off so many scales.

...They said something about those being good points, mumbled something about sharing, and then pulled out another book. But I kept The Rainbow Fish in my lap because I liked to I stroke the scales because fuck, even if I didn't like the story those were some awesome scales and I was going to touch them.

/cool story bro

Yeah, my issue was that wasn't actually sharing. When you share something (with the exception of something perishable like food) you don't actually give that thing up. You just let someone use it for a time and then they give it back!

There was no giving the scales back. They just demanded the scales and they kept them. That's not sharing that's giving. Which is a nice thing, too, but not as the price of admission for friendship.

Yeah, I agree completely. Even then I thought the teacher's explanation was bullshit. Besides, the fish were the friends of the Rainbow Fish because of the what they could get (a scale) from them. Not because they liked the fish, but because they were selfish pricks.

It's like, "Hey, mutilate your body and give everything about you away to other people so you are no longer yourself. They will never give you anything in return and only like you because you bought them." Great moral!

Dude you were an awesome kid.

But also.

those were some awesome scales and I was going to touch them.

Sounds like you understand the other fish more than you thought!

Ahaha, thanks.

Sounds like you understand the other fish more than you thought!

Nooo~ I only molested the fish. I never ripped it out of the book. But seriously, I would have the same compulsion to touch that stuff even today because beyond the *~*~sparkles~*~* the cool-to-the-touch and smooth way that book material felt was awesome.

You know you wanna touch the fish too.

Well of course, I love shiny fish. I never owned that book but whenever I saw it at the store or the library I would just stare at it forever. Not sure if I ever touched the scales, though.
