Man, I got something similar working at my LCS. Had a regular who would always come in and ask for recommendations - when I'd recommend what I was currently reading, he'd mock whatever it was and then start going on about his own favorites - without getting into more detail, it was needlessly condescending and pretentious. After a while, when he'd come in and ask for recommendations, I just started telling him I didn't read comics...which he was really quick to believe, forgetting all our previous conversations. It did lead to moments like this though:
Him: *walks in*
Me: *sitting behind the counter reading a comic*
Him: So, what would you recommend? - oh wait, you don't read comics, right?
Me: *turns page* yup.

Oy. Just... oy. *facepalm* You have my sympathies. That's a truly epic level of stupid on his part.
