I love when Stephen breaks character.

It really is! And, yeah Stephen just loses it, poor guy. Then the second time he cracks up, Jon ends up laughing, too.

I read somewhere that Stephen always saw it as his goal to get Jon to laugh at whatever bit they were doing. It was the best thing I've ever heard.

Aw, I love that kind of thing. Some of the best skits on The Carol Burnett Show were the ones where they couldn't help breaking up.

That was my first thought when I read this, too.

I'm pretty sure Tim Conway spent his whole time on that show trying to make the rest of the cast crack up.

Not the rest of the cast so much as Harvey Korman - he's admitted to making it his goal on the show to get Harvey to corpse as much as possible. Getting Carol or Vicki would be a bonus, but Harvey was his target.

I feel that way about a lot of live comedy shows.

Agreed. It's fun when it happens on The Daily Show and The Colbert Report, too. There were some pretty memorable ones on Whose Line Is It Anyway?, too. What I really love is when there's a scene with a few people, and while most of them are cracking up, one of them keeps going on as if everything is perfectly normal. For some reason, the fact that one person is able to keep their cool makes the whole thing even funnier, imo.

Yeah, exactly! I can think of several times during The Hoe-Down and The Irish Drinking Song bits where he'd sing something, everyone else would start cracking up, and he'd just keep going like nothing odd was happening.

I don't know, it depends. When it's Jimmy Fallon cracking up, it just annoys me. When it's Bill Hader unable to hold it together during one of his Stefan skits, it's the best thing in the world.

In other words, it's great if I like the people involved.

Anderson Cooper getting the giggles is the most adorable thing ever! I love reporters who are capable of going into war zones and calmly reporting on tragedies, but still allow themselves to be human and let everyone else see it.
