I thought Tangled was cute, but I never understood the love people lavish on the movie.

I think it's because people wanted a Disney movie like from their childhoods. PatF was kind of all over the place in terms of plot and pacing, and Naveen and Tiana being frogs did NOT help. God I hate that they spent all that time as frogs. It would have been a lot better if Mama Odie fixed them when they arrived, and then they spent their time as humans trying to get back to New Orleans, I don't know, trying to stop Lottie from marrying an imposter.

Though I do think the plot and story could have been much better, I can not hate on Princess and the Frog because Charlotte is my very favorite Disney princess.

Ha! I never noticed Tiana staring at Charlotte's sparkles. And, yeah, Charlotte's the great gem of that movie. Some people felt she should have been made to grow up by the end of it, but I appreciated that they left her as is.

I hate that they were frogs for so long too!

In fact, I was thinking that it would have been so much better if Tiana had remained a human and agreed to help Naveen in exchange for financial help. It could be that they still meet Ray because they got chased by shadows into the swamp and he tells them about Mama Odie and so they go on that journey and get to know each other and stuff, and Tiana is somehow turned into a frog near the end so her confrontation with Facilier still happens but we get to see her awesome human design for most of the movie anyway.

And then we don't need Louie for transportation so he isn't there creating drag :'|

Yeah, but then Naveen would have come across as an even bigger tool for lying to Tiana about having money for so long. Plus it leaves Naveen as a frog, too, and I don't think that helped him much, either.

Yeah, I hated the side characters. I didn't like Louis, Ray, or Mama Odie. They were all horrible caricatures. Could Mama Odie been less of a...I don't know, Suga Mama, toothless old black woman, and been something like the Enchantress from Beauty and the Beast? Ominous, almost scary, very mysterious but still kind and helpful?

However, Dr Facilier is A+. I loved his song.

I guess I don't have a problem with Naveen staying a frog because that was sort of the point of the original tale. It's a girl who has to help a frog. But both of them being frogs kinda cuts a lot of better possibilities.

I agree about Mama Odie. I remember that her musical number was the point were I went "what, another song already?" and it was such an ineffectual way to present her. I think Ray kinda served a purpose and his deal with the star was cute but he himself was not that endearing.

Facilier was great, yeah. Which, again, sucks because he gets stuck interacting with the servant guy instead of, you know, the protagonists.

No one will ever understand the anger I had when they only change back because they get married. That was the cherry on the 'Your first (and probably only) Black Princess is a FROG for most of the movie, are you SERIOUS?!" sundae.

It's hard to pinpoint why it bothers me so much (besides she looks terrible as frog and it is all silly and REALLY "it's mucus" is going to be your one liner?). I just don't know why I don't like it.

Maybe I just do not like frogs.
