Man, I might've been more interested in Ten/Rose if canon had MEANINGFULLY ADDRESSED THE AGE GAP (and species gap and power differential) in any way beyond "wah, one of us is gonna outlive the other." With bonus undertones of "wah, I'm gonna have to watch you grow old and unattractive," met by an answering "so you know how this was kind of weird and UST-y and almost-platonic when you were Christopher Eccleston? Nope, screw it, you're a pretty boy who looks about my age now, time for the bedroom eyes."

Not that those are insurmountable issues or anything, it's just... something uncomfortable they should've had to face. And it DID get brought up obliquely in The Lazarus Experiment, but more in the interests of shitting on Martha's crush on Ten.

Yeah, I really liked that conversation in School Reunion, but it would have rang more true if the issue had, y'know, actually been addressed properly at any other time. Which is a feeling that could apply to a lot of things in Doctor Who, tbh. That's kinda the problem of having a show with such a mind-bogglingly vast scope needing to have character arcs compressed into a handful of 45 minute episodes with a standard formula every season.

However, if there's one good thing about the way these issues tend to get dropped and never picked up, it's that it provides a lot of room for speculation and meta on the characters' actions and what kind of influence events and issues that get brought up would have been addressed in an ideal version of the show.
