Anon, I ship Aragorn/Arwen, in which Aragorn's foster father is Arwen's biological father and they are first cousins fifty-odd times removed. There's also a giant part in the movie in which Elrond stays that her life is basically going to be short and happy with Aragorn and then he will die and she'll have to wander the world alone because immortal.

My other ship is Aragorn/Boromir. Aragorn is twice Boromir's age, worked for Boromir's grandfather, and knew his parents as contemporaries. The actors who played them are six months different in ages. The 'prime of life' for the line of Stewards is half of that of the Dunedain - Aragorn approaches his prime at 90 and Boromir is 40. Even if Boromir lives, there's going to be a shitload of ageing angst.

I completely understand and I write this all the time.

The one thing that can be said for Aragorn being Elrond's foster son is that for the whole of his childhood Arwen was in Lothlorien.

As for the result of their marriage, I always got the idea that if she chose to wed Aragorn, she was chosing to die a human death, but she'd be fated to live still in prime state until after he died, then left to mourn not only the loss of her husband, but also the loss of her people, who by then would have all migrated West, leaving lands like Lothlorien (which she spent large amounts of time in) to fade away from the glory she knew it (I think it's book canon that she goes back to Lothlorien and ends up dying there).

Also, hello fellow Aragorn/Boromir shipper! That's the pairing that got me into the LotR fandom back in the day!
