IT'S FRIDAY! (Or Saturday on the other side of the world!)

(Anonymous) 2012-12-21 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
And the world is still here!

Re: IT'S FRIDAY! (Or Saturday on the other side of the world!)

(Anonymous) 2012-12-21 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep. I feel sorry for the people who tricked themselves into believing today would be the end of the world, or something else magical.

Ah, yes. I do too, to some extent. Maybe they waited all day, thinking something would happen and nothing. Like that Simpsons episode when Homer warns for the apocalypse and nothing happens.

I keep arguing with myself about whether or not I should feel sorry for them or not. Either way I'm baffled by the ridiculousness of the whole thing... I just don't get it. How difficult is it to understand that all it was was the end of one version of the calender? Not much different than ending December 2012 and starting January 2013. Granted on a much longer scale but still...

every day is magical to me

I do, too, especially those who threw away a lot of money to "prepare" for the end of the world.

It's all I think about now thanks to "Boardwalk Empire" where Michael Shannon's character Van Alden speaks of how his father gave up everything when he was a child because his father had believed in a prophesy seeing the end of the world some time before the 20th century came along. He states his father saw him as all of the failures in his father's life since then.

Yeah, that really depressed me.

So do I. It's entirely possible to have a bit of silly fun over the end of an ancient calander, but taking it seriously? that's at minimum a let down and at most...well, I was worried* someone would take it seriously and commit suicide or, well, kill children

*worried today for you Americans specifically :C you guys are having a bad month

I'm glad, personally.

Me too. I have movies to see, and video games to play. THE END CAN'T COME YET.

Yep!

Now, some part of me wants to know how many people spent their day in a cave and/or gave away all their assets.

Still, happy friday/saturday everyone!

I went to work like any other Friday, even though it was absolutely POURING rain outside and I got soaked. But then I was rewarded with sunshine in the afternoon and we got to go home early because the boss is awesome like that.

Lucky you! Lovely way to end your day.

You know what? If you give away all your stuff because it's the end of the world, then it's not much of a sacrifice, is it? Never could figure out the supposed value of that particular gesture.

Re: IT'S FRIDAY! (Or Saturday on the other side of the world!)

(Anonymous) 2012-12-22 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Neither could I. Why would you give everything away? For someone to enjoy your things for 0.2 day? It's like giving a chewed gum.

Unless they think that getting rid of your earthly possessions makes you a better person and ready to be beamed up to Heaven?

Re: IT'S FRIDAY! (Or Saturday on the other side of the world!)

(Anonymous) 2012-12-22 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
I think that's the logic. BUT STILL, wouldn't it make you an even BETTER person to give those things away to people who could use them for more than 15 minutes??? Getting rid of your earthly possessions and learning to live without them could conceivably lead to spiritual growth. Giving it away at the last second, so you aren't inconvenienced, but nobody benefits from your "gift" either - that's like the legalese way of hitting spiritual markers.

I wish I could find these last-minute givers. I don't mind taking advantage of people if it concerns absurd ideas about the end of days.

By my reasoning, we're not out of the woods till after the end of the 21st - in American time zones (since that's where the people who made the prophecy live). Of course the whole thing is nonsense but if this is how we're going to play it we should play it right.

I'm just disappointed because I am apparently coming down with a massive cold and can't go out and celebrate the survival of the world.

Give it another 6 hours, and I'll relax.

(Not that I'm not mostly relaxed now but, you know what I mean)

And all I got was this lousy t-shirt

Meh. Nothing happened except for the same old, same old.

Didn't want the world to end but, c'mon, I wanted something interesting and unusual to happen. Anything.

For me it's a Count down to the start of all the excuses for why it didn't happen this time, but it is really totally going to happen. SOON!

What should be learned from this: Don't paste your beliefs and delusions all over ancient cultures whose knowledgeable representatives(the people who actually made the calendar, at the time it was made.)can't be consulted in any way. It's also a better bet to trust in scientific evidence than interpretations of prophecies.

What will be learned from this: Not a fucking thing.
