I only started watching this show this season, and then I went back and watched season 2 (not season 1, so I don't know all the backstory on the characters). When I got to the episode where that picture takes place, and Shane is so solicitous of Rick's well-being, I felt....something...too. Shane was always this big tough guy, and he's played by an actor who looks like he should be a former prizefighter with that busted nose, and to see him act so nurturing and mother-hen-like to Rick in that moment was...wow.

That's something I really liked about Shane. He was a big guy and a physically intimidating presence, but he was also a pretty nurturing figure in every scene he had with Carl (season 1 especially) and in some scenes with Rick and even that scene with Carol in 2.08.
