Obviously, there are some people attempting to exploit this tragedy, using it just to make their favorite characters bang or to bump up their popularity, I get that. But not all fanfics and artworks about RL tragedy is inherently exploitative. Some people want to write these things because it's comforting, and other people want to read these things because it's comforting. Some people just want proverbial fix-it fic to cope with this, because there isn't one in real life.
The fact that we shame people for finding comfort about real life tragedies in fanfiction is almost as awful as trying to write mindless porn about or abuse the fame surrounding the event itself. Everyone is allowed to be emotionally different and have their own way of doing things and be super-inclusive of the fact people experience things differently, until a tragedy happens and suddenly, nope, there's only one correct way to grieve and if you don't fit into that well then clearly you're a heartless asshole who deserves to be lynched and burned for it. I expect this in real life, how people will verbally smack you down if they think you're not crying enough or you're smiling too much because or the way you dress or whatever, but it's even worse in fandom.
Why, exactly, is it supposed to be disgusting that in a time of crisis, some of us want to read about favorite heroes helping out and making it all better? None of us are stupid enough to think that makes the horror of the situation any less*, and it can genuinely make some people feel at least a little bit better. (And I hate the "write your own and don't post it" argument, too - some people are not writers or artists but would still like to have this little piece of solace or comfort in the midst of this insanity.)
* = those who are already think so with or without fanfiction/fanworks
I'd obviously advise against sharing this in fandom, OP, when so many others will assume if you don't care exactly like they do then you don't care at all, but please remember: you are NOT a bad person for this, OP. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Everyone grieves and copes in their own ways.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-22 10:28 am (UTC)(link)This sounds like a coping mechanism to me, and people cope in different ways. Don't feel bad about it, OP.
