I'm 5'10" (well, anywhere from 5'9.5"-5'11") too! High (haha) five!

I love seeing couples where the girl is taller than the guy, It's comforting because lots of guys apparently don't like to date girls taller than them.

Ugh, I'm short (and a girl) but I was having a conversation with my friends about how they'd never date a guy shorter than them. I was just thinking "what a weird thing to complain about, why does it matter?" I think it's pretty annoying to be a lot shorter than your partner, actually.

I think a lot if women just consider shortness in men to be kind of a turnoff.

But why? I realize people can't help what they're attracted to, but this one has always sort of baffled me. It makes some sense evolutionary speaking because the big man will protect the pregnant/mothering primate, but these days it doesn't really make a lot of sense. If a man is otherwise a good person, and a suitable match with regards to interests/personality/beliefs/whatever, rejecting him because he's two inches shorter than the woman seems so... well... shallow? Arbitrary? To me, it's like not liking a woman for having brown eyes instead of blue, or having freckles or something. Ah well.

Sexist beauty standards. We've just got it ingrained that men are taller, women are shorter, as a way of reproducing the same old in control, aggressive, manly man who can protect his little lady. I mean, most people don't see that consciously, it's just been reproduced so much that some of them get a weird uneasy feeling when they see something different.

I can...kind of see where they're coming from? If they're quite petite themselves. It's difficult for me, because I'd prefer a guy who is taller than me, though of course it's harder to find. I'd need someone who was over 6', but someone shorter isn't a deal-breaker since personality's the most important.

As a tall girl who prefers dudes taller, I'll tell you why: It's because I feel like a beast next to a short dude. I feel ridiculously unfeminine and have actually had a boyfriend complain about how much it sucked that he couldn't put his arm around my shoulders. It sucks. And it's totally valid and I hate when short guys complain about it, it just straight pisses me off. Like oh, men can have whatever standards they want but as soon as a girl has something that could be shallow (though it a lot of cases it isn't even about the visual) it's suddenly horrible and so unfair to the short guys? Nope.
