Count me as one who didn't like it, and I had the highest hopes possible going in.

I didn't hate it, but like the OP, I was bored. It was repetitive, and scenes that were clever at first (like the Dwarf arrivals) overstayed their welcome by about 15 minutes. Bilbo and Thorin were well played but underdeveloped as characters, and there was something about the filming--the high frame rate, or the IMAX?--that made a lot of things look fake. Rivendell in particular looked like a Thomas Kinkade painting.

That's my opinion; I'm not saying it's objectively true or that you or anyone else shouldn't like it. But those "everyone loves X/everyone hates X" dichotomies are invariably false, and Roger Ebert isn't a "quack" just because he didn't like something that you do.
