The heroine of "Frozen", from the Snow Queen tale.

Huh. Well, Snow Queen is a Northern Europe story, so that makes sense. I wonder if they'll add the gypsy girl - she was badass.

While I can understand while they're leery of doing another black Disney heroine (they're lazy and it takes extra work to get it right, what with the potential for offending people) being so damn lazy that they can't even make up a new character look is pushing it.

I'm not sure if they'll be including her, the synopsis really reads like a snowed-in Christmas version of Tangled, which... Okay, Tangled was good, we get it, but move on.

Oh that is some Class-A bullshit right there! There's taking one of the few awesome and feminist fairy tales and making it dumb? Why? And not even using the fairy tale story?

(Anonymous) 2012-12-22 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. It looks formulaic and watered down, and this is really not encouraging.

Yeah, now I actually AM sorely disappointed. :( The Snow Queen is one of my favorite fairy tales, so I was pretty stoked about hearing they were gonna make it into a movie, but nope, looks like it's gonna be the genericest generic thing.

Oh well, there's still the Russian version (and I'm pretty sure they've subbed or dubbed it to English). But yeah, I really would have liked to see a good Disney version of it.

I looooooved the Russian Snow Queen film!

(Anonymous) 2012-12-24 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
Just googled that. I had no idea it was Russian! I loved it too so much, definitely more than the original tale.

...Wait, what? Sorry, what? How does this synopsis have anything to do with The Snow Queen? This is a totally original story that just happens to have a character called the Snow Queen! Are they even trying to make adaptations any more?

What happened to the story about a girl's journey and the friends and allies she meets and the growth she undergoes to save her best friend?

Well, bah. 'The Snow Queen' is one of my most favorite fairy tales.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-23 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, her best friend.

Who happens to be a boy whom she loves deeply.

Because what we totally need is YET ANOTHER story starring a lead female ALL ABOUT saving the boy.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-23 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
Source material yo. If the story being adapted features a girl saving her male buddy then that's likely what the movie will be about. Personally I like the fact that the story was about friends rather than romantic couple.I thought it made a nice change.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-23 10:56 am (UTC)(link)
Because there are soooo many girl-saves-boy stories, right? Lol.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-23 03:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Uh, can you tell me any other movie where the girl saves the boy? It's actually not that common, and especially not in the way the original source does either. Gerda's journey may started out as her trying to rescue Kai, but along the way she met so many different people and grew into a stronger character. It's a classic hero's journey, only this one's a girl.

Plus Gerda and Kai are nothing more than friends in the fairy tales, and that's great too. We need more deep, selfless, loving friendships between a boy and girl without it actually be a blatant romance.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-22 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, that's kind of disappointing. I was hoping since it was the Snow Queen that we'd get a movie that focused on friendship and not romance.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-22 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh I REALLLLLLYYYYY hope they put the robber girl in there. I ADORED her, she was pretty much my favorite character in the entire fairy tale. Her relationship with her mother was hilarious too.

It would seem they're cutting out her character.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-22 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
nooooo she was the best thing in the whole storyyyy

(Anonymous) 2012-12-23 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
If you liked her, then why not scrounge up a copy of Jessica Amanda Salmonson's second Amazons! anthology

http://www.amazon.com/Amazons-II-Jessica-Amanda-Salmonson/dp/B002CT3AJ0

for Phyllis Ann Karr's short story "The Robber Girl"? (Someone had to write it!)
