I'm more annoyed that they changed the story. A girl having to save her man? Awesome. A girl has to save her own heart while a guy saves her, most likely in song? Boring.

And also something we've already seen a billion times before. Why not stick with the themes of self-reliance and friendship instead of trying to shoe-horn in romance? :(

As far as I can tell, the guy's not even going to save her and seems more like a damn tour guide. Meanwhile, she's saving her own damn self instead of everything being about the guy yet again.

Girl saving a guy is still making her motives all about the guy, because a girl saving herself is selfish.

You pretend like all stories about a guy saving a girl are all about the girl. Read the original story again. It is about their friendship and deep platonic love, not about a girl who makes her life all about a guy.

If you want to see such a story, go watch Disney's take on The Little Mermaid. At least in the original the mermaid has to learn that getting obsessed about a man and changing completely for him can have very negative consequences. In the Disney version the moral of the story is that changing for a man and giving everything up to be with him is awesome, because you will get to be a princess and have his babies :D
