I agree with the comment to be careful what you tell your friends, because if they're mutual friends with him, he'll be spinning his story to them, to stay in their good graces (and maybe get you back). Even with you telling them he abused him, that may not be enough.

If any of your friends try to tell you to go back to him, that he's the best thing that ever happened to you, etc., etc., tell them you're not interested in this conversation, and you will not discuss it further. If they try to push it, then you know what side they've chosen.
