Re: How to seek help for ADHD/BPD?

(Anonymous) 2012-12-24 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
If it's not too scary, look into Bipolar Disorder. When I was going through the process of being diagnosed ADD/ADHD, Bipolar, and BPD were all mentioned. They all have some overlapping symptoms but are different beasts. Also, it could be that you might not have ADD/ADHD but just one diagnosis that manifests similar to ADD/ADHD*. I have ADD (no hyperactive for me) but a few doctors have said that a lot of people, women and girls especially, get diagnosed as ADD/ADHD when really they're Bipolar, and vice versa. And then a few of the lucky ones, like me, actually have both. But they have very similar and overlapping symptoms.

If you insurance and access to, I strongly suggest seeing a doctor who can recommend a good therapist who can not only diagnose (or second it, if the doctor does diagnose) but can help you cope and deal.

*I don't mean to be dismissing your ADD, just an idea. I don't mean offense and hope I didn't cause any distress.
