9. Scary thing is, that I agree. I could have done a much better job, too. But, then, my motives would have been different.

19. You know... against my better judgment, I'm going to agree with you. I'm sick to death of feminists attacking everything in the world because women are "objectified" or "badly portrayed" in it. You know what? If it makes you so angry, stop watching and participating in it. Is it an unwritten feminist law that you must seek out things you don't like? Honestly, I'm just as sick as everyone else of the Sakura/Orihime/Misa (especially, since I like her, but whatever)/various-other-female-character bashing, but you know what? I tend to stay away from those sides of fandom. Jesus, people, grow a fucking brain.

24. So agreed. I wish that I could actually admit to liking anime and manga offline, but due to the idiots that get obnoxious about it, we have a bad name as morons. :(

*eats cookies OMNOMNOMNOM* How did you KNOW I was craving cookies? XD

Honestly, it just comes down to the fact that it's going to take a very, very long time for society to change, and barging in like "OHMYGOD HOWDARE YOU" isn't going to help. So, if people know it triggers them to turn into slavering, rabid beasts, perhaps they should avoid it? ^^'

[identity profile] sarajayechan.livejournal.com 2007-08-24 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Lucky guess!

Well, they could be afflicted with train-wreck syndrome, where they know it's bad but they can't turn away. But more than likely they just like to complain.

Is it bad that I read that line as "slavering, rabid breasts"?

Ahaha, and here I am, a member of a silent majority (sane, pro-tolerance Christians whut?) myself. How lame of me to forget, but you are totally right.

Still, it does annoy me that a (small?) percentage of the group tries to get its point across by generally being asshats and gives the sane part of the group a bad name.

While fandom does tend to totally get off on female bashing, I'm either desensitized to it or I just don't frequent areas of fandom that do it that much. ^^' Most of the areas I hang around are actually fairly pro-female, or at least are nice to them.

I look forward to that day with glee and anticipation. It will be a glorious and wonderful day, so long as it's only one-way. I can just see it. Like. A slapfight via computer monitors.

I try to find them, mostly because even in my slash, I like to see the girls treated well. The villainization of females in order to get a slash pairing together tends to be my hotbutton, but I (thankfully) don't see it so much anymore. Then again, it may be my fandoms, which seem to be pretty female-friendly, all except for one. Gundam Wing will forever be anti-female, I believe. :(

19. It's one thing to go around looking to be offended, but when it's RIGHT THERE why aren't we allowed to be angry? Finding blatant misogyny (like the comment the one quoted in the secret was responding to) is not the same thing as finding badfic, christ.

[personal profile] karel 2007-08-25 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, so I admittedly phrased things badly.

Still, finding something and then getting angry about it and typing up a rage-filled comment isn't going to get your point across very well at all. Nor will the randomly placed "I'm better than you" smilies that generally mean you're trying to be elitest and failing pretty hard.

Also, at no point did I say you weren't allowed to be angry. I don't agree with your anger, but you've got all the right to it that you want.

[identity profile] mistressofrobin.livejournal.com 2007-08-26 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Why do people still rag on Sakura anyway? She got tons stronger on so many levels over the timejump. Shouldn't that have made things better?
karel: (colette; the better part of me)

I'm not familiar with timeskip!Sakura (haven't been keeping up with the series lately), but I liked her before, when she was being hated on for liking Sasuke. ^^' I thought she acted perfectly normal for a girl her age, and actually being devoted to one guy for such a long time? That in itself is pretty incredible. Of course, she wasn't the best at expressing it, but who was at that age? I think people treat her as if she should act like a grown woman when she's only, what, twelve?
