(Anonymous) 2007-08-25 04:54 am (UTC)(link)I'm the OP of the secret, and I'm super happy that you actually wrote this much about it! When I was scrolling down, I was excited to see a reply to number 19, and then I saw the sheer size of the comment XD Thank you for putting that much thought into it.
I'm someone that can complain that female characters in, let's say, Naruto, are written horribly and sometimes very stale.
I agree -- Kishimoto's girl characters don't have that much depth. But Sakura takes the brunt of the hate, and people don't realize she actually does have something going for her. I admit I hated her at first with her "OMFGSASUKEEEEEEEEE♥♥♥" thing, but from the moment she chopped her hair off to actually help for once, I think she grew a whole lot, and fantards don't take that into account ;o;
Why are the more 'pressing' issues you stated any more 'pressing' than the hatred of female characters?
Well -- they're not more pressing in general I suppose. But in fandom I think. Because girl characters do get a lot of attention, yaoi fangirls aside. But you almost never see much love for overweight characters -- or even overweight characters in the actual manga/video games/what have you themselves! Same goes with characters of different race -- I could probably think of five off the bat and then totally stop. But there will always be plenty of girls in fandom.
(you can hate a female character and not be sexist)
Exactly. That's why I don't like people saying that fandom is misogynist. Because little girls run around hating Sakura, Orihime, Misa, Kairi et cetera et cetera, but it's just because they like teh ghey. Not because they're sexist.
But many do things for their communities and live normal lives, outside of a few gripes and rants.
Well, the secret was my gripe/rant. I don't actively get upset about feminists. It was actually just that stupid comment I put in there that was the straw that broke the camels back, if you will. And in your next paragraph, "people whine about ______", and then see that EVERYONE is so much alike, I have to agree. People love whining. It makes them feel superior, I'm thinking.
IM A TOTAL SEXIST, SO U KNO. I actually don't really see that much sexism outside fandom. But I don't really see men and women, I see people (
unless she has a great rack--no but srsly). I think all misogynists along with the feminists are just taking everything too srs bizness. That's probably what it all boils down to. My own secret probably seemed like I was taking it very srs bizness myself, but really...I mean, I do get rallied up a lot about stupid shit. I wish I could act like a few people who've responded to my secret -- who are all "just chillax".I'm not even sure what my point is by this point, but I still do appreciate your in depth responce :D

WHAT PLANET ARE YOU LIVING ON AND HOW DO I GET TO IT?
Women make $.70 to the man's $1.00 in the United States. Women are held to incredibly harsher standards in the professional workplace. Constan blaming of rape, molestation, and harassment victims because of their dress. God, I can't even begin to list issues in standard media. Reference to professional women by first names only, hypersexualization in a degrading manner, jesus, it goes on.
Look, I'm not sensitive. I swear like a sailor, watch the most offensive shit possible on television, and have friends that like to punch me in the tits. Hell, I'm a lesbian, I objectify women. But there's a huge difference in wanting to hit smokinaces!Alicia Keys like the fist of an angry god (lol last secretpost) and the portrayal of women as something to dominate and subdue. Sure, things are a little better than they were in the 50's, but they are far from great.

Also, I NEED TO KNOW IF YOU'RE DROPPING VINCENT OR NOT. D: TEXT ME, BITCH.

Haha. So women have a few downsides. Don't men too? Don't women have upsides? What about like, hobos? Should we have hobos rights? They're treated far worse than most women. >_> So things aren't totally perfect for women. It used to be a fact of life they couldn't vote, now it's a fact of life that life's not perfect. :O!

Let me tell you something, you little twit. I live in a "little town" too, except gay people were literally banned for three days, and where people treat people like people: NASTILY. This is because I live in the fucking REAL WORLD, where gays are murdered and women are abused.
Get in it.

and uh yeah, since when do hobos not have rights? Also, way to imply that women as a gender are on an equal level with hobos.
I hope you're having fun in Oblivioustown; seems the Clue Train doesn't make very frequent stops there.
Are you fourteen or what?
no subject
Why not? Would you rather be treated as an inferior? There are plenty of men -- and women -- who will oblige you.
so I don't really give a shit about looking up all these horrible things women have to go through.
If you don't take the time to educate yourself on a topic you have no place talking about whether or not it's real. Just like you have no place outside the home, since you're not one of those nasty evil feminists. :)
I live in a little town where [...] almost everyone's gay
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof.
it's a fact of life that life's not perfect. :O!
"Cute" smiley aside, your statement holds no water. It's a fact of life that people get murdered but it's still illegal. You're far too passive; I suppose that's why you're "not a feminist."
