I personally think that Derek has more chemistry with Jackson and Stiles with Scott, but people are going to ship what they want to ship. It's annoying sometimes when Sterek seems to overrun everything, but the fandom seems to be slowly diversifying and there are more pairings getting some love. As long as people aren't up in my face and irritating about it (or hijacking non-Sterek posts to talk about Sterek... srsly, guys, stop that shit), then I'm cool with it.

But, yeah, I can see why some people ship it, but the canon evidence isn't as much as some people would lead you to believe. I think this may be partially because there was an insurgence awhile back of people brought in via fanfic, some of whom didn't bother to watch the show and didn't realize that fanon =/= canon.

Oh, I really don't mind people who ship it! I actually have sort of fallen in love with the fic as a guilty pleasure, since the common tropes are up my alley. I was just really excited for a show with legit canon evidence of a popular (and slash) ship, and I felt like I'd been promised so much that didn't turn up. But even though I didn't really ship much on the show, whatever floats people's boats!

I totally get you in the being frustrated! I know one of my friends who got into the show after seeing stuff going around Tumblr was like, "Wait... that's it? I THOUGHT IT WAS CANON." So, she totally shares your pain, lol. Kind of crappy for people excited about a canonical gay relationship going into things to find out there isn't one, though. It would be nice if some of the shippers dialed it back just a wee bit and stopped referring to it as canon and misleading other people (I think it's mostly unintentional, but still kind of crappy and disappointment-making).

Yeah, it's definitely unintentional/just based on excitement, so I can't really fault anyone, I suppose. I should know by now to temper my expectations!

It's also kind of funny because of Danny-- whose sexuality, for the most part, just is. It's not played for laughs where the punchline is simply "he's gay!", he just is who he is. Which is pretty cool. And it's funny that that is eclipsed by the excitement over the "canon gay couple" Derek/Stiles, who are... not.

It's so true! I absolutely love the way that Danny is written, and the way that sexuality is kind of presented as not a big deal in the canon in general. I do wish that Danny got more attention and wasn't so overshadowed by Sterek, though. Also they should give him a boyfriend who lasts for more than one episode. And more screen time. I kind of just really like Danny, though. Haha.
