Yeah, that's the reason. Considering that it's a period piece, too, it just seems a bit ridiculous. I highly doubt that anyone watching the movie would have even made a connection between that scene and the shooting. If you feel that uncomfortable about it, then just delay the movie's release for a bit or something.
