I don't even know why I prefer it, TBH. I just have this visceral "wtf is this shit" reaction to the made-up pronouns even though I understand the intention is supposed to be good. To me, it feels like a more insidious form of othering. I'd rather be called "it" because that's at least acknowledging I'm mundane and real as opposed to being something so inconceivably weird and sparkly that people had to invent a super-special word just to describe and understand me.

But then, I only use "queer" because that's apparently the thing now. Frankly, I find being called that far more offensive than being called a fag or a dyke. The latter are meaningless slang terms. "Queer" is a real word with a real definition and that definition is pretty gross when applied to people.

A "fag" is a cigarette and a dyke is a dutch dam.

Gay means happy.
