I personally think they have chemistry despite their limited shared screentime. I don't think it could be canon, though, unless Derek went through more character growth and Stiles matured a bit. While I love reading fic of them til the cows come home, Derek is not currently in a place to want to be romantically involved with anyone, let alone a high school student.

I prefer the fics where Stiles is at least in college and both of them have done some growing.
