I read Altair as non-white when I first played. I was told about AC before playing or viewing promotional materials though, so that may have been a factor. I still think he looks very ambiguous on my game box, though, regardless. Same thoughts go for Desmond.

I'm mixed myself, and since a good lot of AC characters are indeed mixed, I guess I picked up on that more than anything, so having them them written off as just "white" or "too white" always seemed wrong and blanketed. This especially goes for Aveline, who is often forgotten about (which is forgivable given she's not in the main series and her story is not widely accessible).

I will say I am still not happy with the strange american accent Altair sported in the first game. Supposedly it was to make him easier to relate to (which wouldn't make sense given his vocal range), or to demonstrate that it was Desmond in his ancestor's shoes going through the motions (a theory that also applies to the similar faces). Whatever it was for, I'm glad they corrected it in Revelations.

I apologize for any incoherency. :(
