ITA. In my experience, most people who say they want feedback are thinking of positive, uncritical, 'asfkljdf'-style squee. It's rare to find people who welcome genuine constructive criticism, of the "your fic is pretty good, it'd be even better if you kept your tenses straight" variety.

Sadly, fandom is crammed with authors who don't even run their fics through a spellchecker before posting. Sure, I've been tempted to point out some of the more embarrassing errors, but then I think: if they don't respect themselves and their readers enough to use a spellchecker (an elementary form of proofreading that's both near-instantaneous and free), that says to me that they're not genuinely open to concrit of any sort. Why should I take them more seriously as writers than they take themselves?

That said—no, I'm not going to take an unsolicited dump on them, either. I'm not interested in souring someone's day for no good reason. The internet's a nasty enough place as it is.

Exactly.

I see someone's fic is filled with spelling errors, I'm not likely to read it, let alone concrit it.

If they think they are serious, then I don't give them the time of day. If they aren't being serious, I just move along, let them have their fun. I don't begrudge them that at all.
