If you are writing "just for fun", you are perfectly entitled to do so without wanting concrit. In which case either you should post your fic somewhere comments aren't allowed and deal without getting all the asspats and squee, or state clearly that you don't want crit. In which case some assholes might leave negative comments anyway, but you know what? Grow up and deal. You don't have to pay attention to all the comments you get. Sometimes people in RL are going to be nasty too. Guess what? People in fandom can also be assholes, and you have to deal with them just like you would those RL assholes: ignore them, or thank them for the feedback then ignore them if you're really nice, or tell them to fuck off. Yeah, all these might stir up wank, but the potential for wank exists everywhere, and you can't avoid it forever any more than you can avoid drama in RL forever, nor should you. Learning to gracefully handle situations that you would prefer not to be in is part of growing up.

If you have an ego of glass, that is YOUR problem. The rest of the world does not need to cater to it, and no matter how much you think it should, it will not do so. What you want =/= what you get, on the internet or otherwise. Try to grow into the sort of person who can deal, because otherwise life is going to have a few very nasty shocks in store for you, and also people will dislike you because nobody likes a whiner.

And assuming that the feedback being received is simply the whiny negative comments, like "NO SHIP B/C INSTEAD THEY'RE SO MUCH HOTTER", or "noooo i hate A because i hate girls they're boring don't write them", or whining about how they "can't handle the present tense": please be aware that this not concrit, it is merely whining. You are perfectly entitled to ignore whiners extra hard, whether or not you want concrit. You have no particular need to heed them, or worry about them, because (spoilers) RL will also contain whiners whom you are also free to ignore.

Real concrit is precious and should be treasured, but it only counts as real if it helps, you know. And more than anything, the author should be willing to accept the help. Otherwise, well: pearls and swine.

The exact same thing can be said to those who whine about not everyone being grateful for, or even wanting their concrit.

MTE

Reviewers also have to accept that the world isn't a rosy glowy place where they are going to be welcomed everywhere with open arms. Some writers are going to be immature and cry about it, other writers don't care about concrit. It sucks, it's stupid, it's unfair, but, hey, it's the internet. If you want to play on the internet, you have to be prepared to deal with all different responses.

If reviewers want to never hear a complaint from writers, then they need to go to a site where writers are required to recieve every review and concrit without complaint.

Of course it can! But frankly the only thing you can control is your own response. All whiners can and should be ignored.
