You need to stop defining yourself by the media you consume.

I know that's hard. We're pretty much all geeks here, and geekdom is pretty much defined by consumption and not much else. Even fanfiction is just another form of consumption mixed with a little creativity.

But you need to be able to talk to people who don't like what you like. Not liking what you like doesn't mean they don't like you. I have family who love sports. I have no idea what they're talking about when they start talking sports. That doesn't mean I don't like them. I have family that likes shitty reality television. That doesn't mean they're stupid or beneath me. We just like different things.

Have you tried asking them about what they're talking about? You might learn something! But instead you're texting fandom secrets.

This might sound harsh, but you might just be alone because you're silent.

I do get what you're saying, but sometimes it'd be nice to talk about something you love with someone close to you. And if fandom's a really large part of your life most people will never get it.

Basically IT'S HARD AND NO ONE UNDERSTANDS./tiny violin
