I think it depends on the kind of criticsm... both online and in writing groups IRL I've belonged to, there have been peole who either just wanted to troll and be nasty, or who meant well but really just wanted everyone to write what they wanted to read, which isn't fair for the writer. I can understand objecting to that. But I usually assume people write things because they want feedback, although I've learned to be careful because that's not always true.
