(Anonymous) 2012-12-26 02:59 am (UTC)(link)Think about it: when it's a fictional character, you don't have to open up. You don't have to express your vulnerabilities. You can conceal your true self while still experiencing intimate emotions. A character will never hurt you the way that a real person can. Even if a character dies, it's not real. You can turn back time; you can watch previous episodes, or read previous chapters, or dive into fic. S/he will never leave you, not truly.
But, well, you've already recognized the danger in this. Life presents one paths on which mere characters cannot follow. If we want to have company, then at some point, we must learn to be vulnerable. We must learn to accept the fact that, if we don't want to be alone, then we must also not fear to be hurt.
It's a difficult process. I know, because I've been there. But, in the end, it's worth it. And the best part is that you get to keep your fictional loves.
