Hufflepuff gets a raw deal in fandom. In canon, Slytherin is basically the house of unrepentant evil wankers and it turns out by book seven that it probably would actually be best policy to just put them all in prison as soon as they're sorted.

The fandom made better sense of this and embraced the possibility that Slytherin ambition might be more about individualism, business acumen, self-confidence etc.

By similar logic you'd think we could take the "duffer house" and suggest that that's probably where the social workers, nurses, civil-rights activists, carers, and mediators of the WW come from. The house of inclusivity and public-mindedness. But it seems like most of fandom has just left it at "duffers".

Haha, this reminds me of that Cracked After Hours video where Soren proposes that all Slytherins should have been taken to a room and humanely destroyed for the good of the wizarding world as soon as the hat put them in Slytherin

It was a long time ago. I'm searching, but so far no luck.

If it helps: The fic is a short one-shot, based on what would have happened had the light won after Halloween 1981, but the war been far harsher. The light doesn't forgive.

Harry goes to Hogwarts, and when they go in to be sorted, there's only three house tables.

Draco gets sorted into Slytherin.

I'd tell you more, but NGH, it was such a great story! You should read it cold.

i was going to ask for a link, then remember these are children and it reminded me of this horrible video i saw once of a litter of half grown puppies in a metal cage that was slowly being heated on the bottom. they scrambled and cried to get out before slowly dying.

and i think the dark fic would be like that. unwanted half grown ferals slowly dying.

any long decent fanfics based around hufflepuff? Preferably one of our canon characters being sorted there, but I'll take secondary characters or OC's if it's written well
