I think most people do it good-naturedly, but yeah, some people go a bit too far. I'm not a Hufflepuff, but they kick ass. I mean, Cedric Diggory? Tonks? Even Professor Sprout is awesome!

I don't hate on Hufflepuff, but I admit to being kind of baffled when Pottermore sorted me there. I always thought I was a Ravenclaw shoo-in, since basically I was Hermione all the way through school but with Luna's tendency to focus on learning weird things rather than useful/important things. I figured if Luna was a Ravenclaw in spite of her eccentricities, I probably belonged there too!

Then I got Hufflepuff, and I'm ashamed to admit that I didn't pay enough attention to any Hufflepuffs to have any clue what qualities I might have that line up. I mean, I know the overview, but it seems like the general summary of Ravenclaw fit in more ways, and I'm just not sure I understand what Hufflepuff is about.

It's kind of a lame thing to puzzle over, admittedly, especially when I'm not offended. I just don't like not understanding things. (Which is why I figured I'd be Ravenclaw.)

I was sorted into Ravenclaw several times (including Pottermore), but when I read the Hufflepuff introduction. Dude...it was badass. You guys had the best out of the four houses IMHO. The only house that no one has ever been able to enter if they weren't a Hufflepuff? That's awesome.

It's because Gryffindor and Slytherin are the main focuses of the series, and Ravenclaw's talent is intelligence, something many people pride themselves on. Hufflepuff's defining characteristic is loyalty, which is a bit more abstract than the others, so people can't understand why it's so important.

It's not my first choice house, but I'd actually prefer Hufflepuff over Gryffindor!

Hufflepuff gets a raw deal in fandom. In canon, Slytherin is basically the house of unrepentant evil wankers and it turns out by book seven that it probably would actually be best policy to just put them all in prison as soon as they're sorted.

The fandom made better sense of this and embraced the possibility that Slytherin ambition might be more about individualism, business acumen, self-confidence etc.

By similar logic you'd think we could take the "duffer house" and suggest that that's probably where the social workers, nurses, civil-rights activists, carers, and mediators of the WW come from. The house of inclusivity and public-mindedness. But it seems like most of fandom has just left it at "duffers".

Muggles can't be Hufflepuffs.

I dunno, that always sounded to me like the house where the best human beings around all went. Brave and bold people can be arrogant, vain, stupid assholes, smart and scholarly people can be insipid, pretentious do-nothing snobs, and ambitious and cunning people can be vile, scheming, back-stabbing creeps, but Hufflepuffs? Their worst common trait seems to boring sensibleness. Where exactly does "stupidity" factor into that description?

I didn't think I'd have to go anon for this, but apparently people are really not-so-happy that some others identify with Hogwarts houses.

I always thought of myself as a Ravenclaw. But then I was sorted into Hufflepuff, and it really does fit me. I understand being upset at the general attitude regarding the house. My sister went to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter with her boyfriend, and I asked her to bring me back some Hufflepuff stuff, and she said that there pretty much wasn't any. Which disappointed me. I'm proud of being Hufflepuff.

I was sorted into Ravenclaw first (which honestly makes no sense whatsoever), so I don't think the Pottermore tests should be taken seriously. Even so, there is NOTHING wrong with Hufflepuff. I've done my share of good-natured teasing about Hufflepuff (and even then, only to a certain friend who I knew wouldn't be offended by it), but imo it's a great house to be in. Out of wisdom, cunning, courage and loyalty, I'd pick loyalty every time.

Hufflepuff = the rad house

Hufflepuff is the cool place to hang out. You can find most of the cool people there. In Hufflepuff you can just chill and do whatever and totally relax. "Take it easy" is the Hufflepuff motto, for example, that's how laid back it is there. Show up if you want to have a good time. Another good reason to show up is if you want to hang out with friends.

Soooo... am I the only one who got Sorted into a House they truly believed they were in/was actually happy about being Sorted into their House?

My case was the latter. I think I fit in just fine with Slytherin.

Is it really necessary to be all "Harry Potter isn't real; no one gives a shit"? Of course they know it's not real.

Saying "I'm a Hufflepuff" is the same thing as saying "I'm an Aquarius/extravert/dog person." It's just a way of explaining part of your personality, and it's a way to have fun. The secret is talking about how people mock them anyway for falling under the classification they do; do people really need to come on here and mock them for trying to classify themselves at all?

Fandom has this unerring knack of finding small things and making a big deal of it. So it is with Hufflepuff, where the passing references to some people (not even main characters, just a nebulous "some people") looking down on Hufflepuff has mutated into "lol hufflepuff suxx0rz". It's silly.
