Most of the complaints aren't about Lucas being a bad person, just a bad filmmaker. He seems like a lovely person, from what I've seen of him in interviews.

You haven't seen most of the fandom then. A lot of them claim to hate George Lucas for "raping their childhood" and don't care what acts of compassion he's done.

It is true, any fandom that large is probably going to have more than its fair share of those type of fans. But I'm pretty sure they are not actually the majority, just the most vocal.

It's probably true of most fandoms, but the extreme Lucas bashers get a lot of attention.
