I do not mind romance subplots because I really can't think of any examples where the romance was bad and there were not ALSO really obviously bad elements to other parts of the show as well, particularly in the characterization of the main protagonists. So, to me, it's usually bad characters, bad romance; good characters, good romance. It's rarely the case that this doesn't happen.
