Well, I'd argue that yes, there is rape, but GRRM doesn't go into gratuitous detail, shoehorn it in unnecessarily, or try to justify it. It's a Very Bad Thing that sometimes happens in civil wars and other shitty places, along with other warcrimes, looting, torture and lack of civil rights and due process.

That's not to say that you can't find horrible neckbeard fans who range from rape apologists to outright rape enthusiasts, but the books themselves aren't that way.

As to ripping of the war of the roses... I'm not sure "ripping off" is the right word when it's history and not fiction. But I suppose my argument is that it's an homage
