Re: The Sarah Jane Adventures: is it any good?
Also, it fits into the Who universe quite nicely: the stories are generally pretty small-scale and the villains and crises are rather low-key (still lots of end-of-the-world stuff, but it's the difference between "Boom Town" end-of-the-world and "The Christmas Invasion" end-of-the-world, you know?) Which means it's well suited to the character of Sarah Jane, who is a), made of win, and b) not some weird epic badass who doesn't mesh with her previously established character. She's pretty consistent with her appearance in School Reunion, smart and sneaky and not very action-y, but with some sci-fi gadgets and access to lots of information, if that's what you were concerned about.
Keeping in mind the kid audience, I think the writing is actually very good. Heavy on the characterization and entertainment factor, rather than complex plots or subtext.
The budget is kinda low, and it admittedly shows, but if you're an Old Who fan, I don't think it'll be enough to bother you ;)
