Yes, have you? Apparently not, because I don't see anyone making points of the involvement of religion in the books.
Everyone is missing one huge historical fact that the Church, as awful as it was, actually banned warfare on a good number of days of the year.
They also miss the lack of involvement of commerce in asoiaf, merchant guilds, and the power they weilded, plus the fact that many wars were based on the desire for gold and opening trade routes.
but raperaperaperaperape is ALWAYS a guarenteed hit for surefire historical accuracy. Wanna write something medievel? Throw some rape in there, it will make it authentic. Add some dirt, grime, and some bloody war, and you got the perfect medieval society.
