1. You can't have a conversation about how gun control stops gun crime without acknowledging that this isn't always the case. Most all gun crimes incidents, by their nature, are going to be pretty depressing.

2. You have to take the % of the US vs Norway's populations into account if you want to prove your point with numbers. Also, compare it to overall homicides to see if it actually brings the rate down, as opposed to just bringing the gun-homicide rate down.

3. Norway is a lovely country. If you don't mind the winter cold and extended dark, I'm sure you'd have a good time there.

1. Yes. But there are ways to do it. Using a mass shooting to give an edge to your comment was insensitive.

The ratio is 2,98 per 100,000 in the US (9,146 people were intentionally killed by a gun) and 0.19 in Norway in 2009 (9 homicides, but there were 107 deaths because of a firearm that year, counting suicides and accidents).

If we count the overall homicide rate, in 2009, it's 0.6 in Norway (29), 4.96 in the US (15,241). This table from the FBI gives a comprehensive overview, per US state, of number of homicide vs weapons used (http://www2.fbi.gov/ucr/cius2009/data/table_20.html)
