I went through a period of this of several years. Then I gradually got back into fic for a new fandom. Now, for the first time, I'm writing as well as reading and still enjoying meta. I think these are all ways of doing fandom, and you're no less fannish for enjoying the meta aspect of it for awhile.

You might be interested in reading some acafan work, if you haven't already. Henry Jenkins' books are interesting. Cyberspaces of Their Own is a little dated now, but still interesting. And there're some interesting articles in the OTW's Transformative Works journal. (http://journal.transformativeworks.org/index.php/twc)
