Eh, some people really like kissing, some don't. I fall firmly into the latter category. I just am not a big fan of it. People typically have awful breath, and you rarely get passionate kissing right after someone's brushed their teeth. I have a really heightened sense of smell, so this really grosses me out and completely detracts from the kiss most of the time.

This is kind of what chewing gum and breath mints are for? I guess.

See, before I ever kissed someone that deeply, I always thought the bad breath thing would be an issue (when I read it in fanfic etc). But when I actually got around to doing it...I honestly didn't notice? And I've kissed people right after dinner, too, where you'd expect the taste, if not the smell, of food to still be there and...it genuinely wasn't. Maybe I've just been pretty lucky w/r/t to the dental hygiene of the people I've been kissing or something.

Word. I was always told the "licking an ashtray" thing about kissing a smoker, and then briefly dated a smoker and... nope. Maybe I'm just not sensitive to it?

I dated a smoker, and it literally WAS like kissing an ashtray. I also have a very sensitive sense of smell. I don't seem to have a problem with most other people's mouth scents, but the smoker thing was just above and beyond awful.

Yeah, pretty much this. My partner hates the fuck out of onions, but he still enjoys kissing me (with tongue!) after I eat anything oniony. I think it's one of those things that you stop caring about or learn to ignore if you like the kissing itself enough. And mouths...mostly just taste like mouths. I'm more weirded out by descriptions of mouths tasting like, idk, champagne and cherries or somesuch bullshit.

AYRT

Yeah, mouths pretty much do just taste like mouths in my experience. I get the impulse to...embellish in fanfic because you're trying to build the scene, but at most I'll say something about them tasting "faintly" of, like, coffee if they've been drinking it and leave it at that.
