I'm similar...haven't read fanfic not written by a friend in...whoo...forever. Haven't read fanfic in general in a while, either.

Most of my fan experience is discussing what I watch or read - usually in general spaces, or official ones, rather than specific fandom ones, since they're less prone to 'what the hell?' behaviour.

I mostly get the 'proper' fandom experience by looking for fanart.
