this secret is actually relevant to my interests right now as a straight girl who is writing femslash for the first time. this is maybe the flipside of what the OP is saying but i've lately found myself getting into a femslash ship and working on a fic for it but for some reason it's nervewracking as all hell.

i find that the writing of somewhat unconvincing male/male sex is so common in fandom (some done better than others) that readers are kind of willing to suspend disbelief (or may just not know better? idek) whereas i'm kind of scared that someone (and lbr, most fic readers are women) who is queer irl is going to pick apart my terrible attempt at girls getting it on because i didn't do it justice or something. obviously it's not about knowing the technicalities but i've been freaking out about it.

not even going to go down the sad road of how i'm pretty sure no one is even going to end up reading it in a fandom that's mostly dominated by dudeslash.
