The way Tolkien wrote about Aragorn and Arwen's kids in the appendices bothered me and makes me judge-y on Aragorn, even thought it isn't his POV, it's just how Tolkien wrote it. But it's like, Eldarion is the only one who gets named because he's the boy and the heir and who cares about their many daughters.

I think you've got to look at the time period for that bit. Tolkien was writing at a time when women still weren't considered all that important, ridiculous as it may seem. If the same books had been written by a contemporary author, then the daughters would have been named.

I think that is pretty common in his writing and family trees. We generally only get to hear about characters' fathers and paternal lines. Female ancestors appear when they are characters in their own rights but otherwise don't usually get named.

It makes me think of the Bible family trees where the boys are named but girls aren't unless something exceptional enough happens *tsch*
