Can I just say that I found the blue seal prince guy extremely hot when I saw this movie?

That movie made me wonder what the ancient Celts were like and how much garbage the invading Romans made up about them when they described them. (See, it pays to have a written language rather than just sticking to oral traditional one.)

I just want to know what they called themselves.

Some of them did apparently have a written record of themselves; there's a book called History of the Kings of Britain that's supposedly a translation from the ancient Welsh (aka one of the original British dialects), by one Geoffrey of Monmouth, of a history of, well, the kings of Britain pre-Roman invasion. By all accounts the book was somewhat messed up when it was translated, by which I mean that the book which was translated wasn't perfectly accurate, unsurprising considering the age of the purported original volume; but it's the only primary source I can think of that you might be able to get your hands on. Some scholars call it a medieval forgery, but there's sufficient evidence that this isn't true that said accusation can be reasonably safely discounted, though the accuracy of the account itself is of course questionable as with all ancient histories.

I think, as a history nerd who is not going to stop liking history any time soon, there is room in the fandom for everyone. Some people care about history and some people don't, and fandom is a pretty big place. There are certainly plenty of people in Eagle fandom writing AUs and unresearched stories, and other people who like them, and no one is getting many comments these days, regardless of research or anything else, because the fandom has died down.

Although boy, I'd sure love a fandom where I could squee about history without being regularly accused of trying to make people feel bad by existing. I kind of feel like people shouldn't have to apologize for the harmless stuff they enjoy, whether it's shameless porn or history or both.

It's The Eagle, which is about a Roman soldier dude and his British slave going off into the UNBELIEVABLY GORGEOUS wilds of Scotland to find out what happened to Roman dude's dad out there. It's beautiful and action-y and slashtastic and just generally one of my favorite movies =D WATCH ITTT

Man, this fandom had the most fantastic academic!AU fic ever. Never been particularly interested in the this type of AU before, but now I just want fic where the characters go to conferences and develop academic crushes on each other.
