Re: OP
But, um, wasn't Saruman still doing dickish things while he still calling himself white? Like, wasn't his turn slow and steady instead of like flipping a switch? I assumed this was him during this turning period.

So couldn't, then, this be light foreshadowing? Because technically nothing he says or does in evil in that scene. It's proud and could be interpreted as having ulterior motives if you know what he's going to become but none of the characters do so they wouldn't see it. We do because we know but for all everyone else knows he's just being overly cautious and arrogant.
Re: OP
Yeah, he always had that kind of demeanor about him.
Re: OP
Ah, good to know I'm not making things up in my head.
Re: OP
Naw, it's always been prevalent in the books that he's always been kind of a stick in the butt. He had his compassion before, but the power ultimately corrupted him. It was happening for a while, though.
Even Treebeard said he had noticed a change-- and that was after a long nap, too.
Re: OP
Okay then, good. I guess OP just forgot? Or was smoking something? Or both? (If they were smoking something they should share.)
